On Lux, Urhosson turns his attention to the quiet persistence of light. The Finnish composer explores its subtler gradations—both natural and internal. Echoes of Erik Satie’s melodic simplicity and Arvo Pärt’s weightless spirituality resonate throughout, but Lux remains distinctly personal in its voice. Rather than chasing grandeur, Urhosson leans into understatement: light as slow revelation, a fleeting moment, a memory half-formed.
Across twelve pieces, Urhosson traces many forms of illumination — the diffuse glow of early morning, the sharp clarity of winter air, the warm loom of dusk. Lux moves fluidly between weightless ambient passages, solitary piano meditations, and delicate neoclassical string arrangements, all guided by a quiet improvisational spirit.
The birthplace of Lux was a feeling — a sense that light is a luxury, something to be sought. A reminder that light often feels most precious when it’s rare. Each composition feels less like a statement and more like an offering — a glimpse, a gesture, a soft outline. It is music that doesn’t seek to explain, but simply to illuminate, gently and without urgency.
In Lux, light is never resolved — only felt.
ARTIST PROFILE
Urhosson (born Juha Tuukkanen, 1979 in Helsinki) is an Finnish producer and composer based in Helsinki, Finland who creates atmospheres that fuse electronic and neoclassical elements with field recordings.
During the last decades, having worked and collaborated with a diverse selection of friends/artists, the ever evolving creative environment for Urhosson has been fine tuned to allow music to be created with intuition and invention, without technical boundaries. In addition to the music, some of the released tracks are complemented with minimalistic videos made by Urhosson. These videos are portraying dream like memories or scenes, focusing on a specific subject or a moment in time.
Urhosson’s musical influences range from Japanese shoegaze, neoclassical, minimalist electronica to jazz in all colors. Soundtracks have always been a great inspiration and this can surely be heard in the moods and modes of his sound. Inspirational echos in the music of Urhosson can be heard from Jóhann Jóhannsson, Arvo Pärt, and Ryūichi Sakamoto to mention a few.
